The documentary following James Cameron’s record-breaking solo Mariana Trench dive is coming to 3D Blu-ray. Deepsea Challenge 3D is not directed by Cameron himself but is about him and his latest expedition. James Cameron, famed director of The Abyss, Titanic, and Avatar, is also an avid deep dive explorer and has made multiple documentaries on the topic. Deepsea Challenge first covers his repeated visits to the Titanic and exploration of the Bismarck before diving into the Marina Adventure. In partnership with the National Geographic Society; Cameron oversaw the creation of a new, special submersible called the Deepsea Challenger to dive into the trench. Directors John Bruno, Ray Quint, and Andrew Wright follow Cameron through the successes and failures in construction and testing the Challenger, all the way to the climatic dive.
Deepsea Challenge has amazing undersea footage not available anywhere else. It’s also very educational and informative about ocean diving. James Cameron in this film reminds me of many of the 20th century explorers, innovating new and daring technologies to help explore our world. This would be a great film for kids to see and be inspired by.
James Cameron’s Deepsea Challenge is available on November 11th in a Blu 3D/Blu-ray/DVD edition and a plain DVD release. Pre-order it HERE!
