The legendary rock band Queen is currently on the road and billed as “Queen + Adam Lambert” I have seen the show and it is very good BUT let’s be honest no one can or will ever replace Freddie Mercury. If you would like to argue that point then my first piece of evidence would be the just released Blu-Ray “Queen LIVE At The Rainbow ’74.”
“Queen LIVE At The Rainbow ’74” was recorded in November 1974 during the band’s tour to promote its just released 3rd album: “Sheer Heart Attack.” The band was firing on all cylinders and gave the sold out crowd a 24 song set list that included such now classic songs as “Now I’m Here,” “Liar,” “Stone Cold Crazy” “Keep Yourself Alive” and “Killer Queen.” Most bands would love to have just 1 of those songs in their repertoire but Queen had that and much more after just 2 years and 3 albums!
The Blu-Ray looks and sounds incredible and for a show that was recorded 40 years ago it stands as a testament to how truly magnificent Queen was in concert. Every single band member is perfection. Roger Taylor’s rock solid drumming, John Deacon’s chest thumping bass, Brian May’s other-worldly guitar tone and the heavenly voice and stage charisma of the one and only Freddie Mercury.
History proved that Queen accomplished much, much more after The Rainbow show and this Blu-Ray documents a band at the top of their game who are just getting ready to conquer the world.
“Queen LIVE AT The Rainbow ’74” comes in multiple formats including 1 Disc DVD, 1 Disc Blu-Ray and 2 Disc Blu-RayCD Combo pack which is definitely a must for any Queen fan! Blu-Ray bonus tracks include: “Son And Daughter,” “Brian May Guitar Solo,” “Son And Daughter (Reprise)” and “Modern Times Rock’n’Roll” If you never had the pleasure of seeing Freddie Mercury LIVE then this is as good as it gets.
Drumroll please… 10 out of 10 drumsticks!!!
