First up is the 1998 release “Zoom.” This album is a classic and in my opinion the best album the band ever released! Everything about “Zoom” is just perfection. Should have been hits such as “Pop Is Dead,” “Can I Borrow A Kiss,” “Ambition” and the list just goes on because there is not 1 bad song on the entire album. Singer/Songwriter Doug Fieger is at the top of his game on this release as are original members Berton Averre and Prescott Niles. Rounding out the quartet is legendary drummer Terry Bozzio with the tightest snare drum I have ever heard.
The band’s follow-up album “Normal As The Next Guy” has also been given the deluxe treatment and adds 3 bonus tracks to the original 12 song package.
Released in 2001 “Normal As The Next Guy” suffers a little because it was the follow-up to “Zoom” and that as stated above was a very hard act to follow. Bozzio had moved on by the time the album was recorded and replace with new touring drummer David Henderson as well as Mr. Big drummer Pat Torpey.
“Normal As The Next Guy,” like “Zoom,” also contains some bonafide classics. “Disillusion Town,” “Girl I Never Lied To You,” “It’s Not Me” and “Seven Days Of Heaven” are just a few of the classic sounding Knack songs that easily fit next to “My Sharona” and “Good Girls Don’t” when played side by side in concert!
Speaking of concerts the reissues are rounded out with The Knack’s first official LIVE release… “LIVE From The Rock’N’Roll Funhouse.”
The album contains 17 songs including all the hits plus songs from the bands most recent studio releases. This album sounds great and is best enjoyed with the windows down and the volume turned up.
All 3 of these reissues include bonus tracks and remastered sound plus new liner notes from Berton and Prescott. If you own the originals pass them along to a friend and purchase these because they are worth every cent.
“Zoom” … 10 out of 10 drumsticks!!!
“Normal As The Next Guy”… 8 out of 10 drumsticks!!!
“LIVE From The Rock’N’Roll Funhouse” … 8 out of 10 drumsticks!!!
