Friday night legendary singer of The Monkees ,Micky Dolenz, brought his solo tour to The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, CA for an evening of hits and surprises.

At 72 years old Dolenz still possess a youthfulness that can be seen on his face as soon as he hits the stage. Backed by a top notch band and his long time harmony partner and sister, CoCo Dolenz, Micky entertained the crowd for a tight 90 minute show that included 19 Monkees classics and a handful of cover tunes.

Surprise guests were on hand as well in the form of former band mate and fellow Monkee Mike Nesmith. Nesmith joined Micky to sing “Me & Magdelena” from their most recent album “Good Times.” The song is incredible but Nesmith sounded a little frail on this performance and Micky’s harmonies were not as tight as they were the last time the two performed this song live back in September of 2016.

Next up was Harry Nilsson’s son Kief Nilsson who sang with Micky on a song his father wrote called “Good Times.” This performance was cool given the history Micky and Harry shared together but it was a little under rehearsed and to be honest not great. The highlight of the guest performances was without a doubt when CoCo Dolenz took center stage to sing the Nesmith penned “Different Drum.” CoCo’s vocals were perfection as she nailed every note.

The showed closed with Nesmith returning to the stage to join Micky for “Listen To The Band” and The Monkees’ chart topping 1966 single “I’m A Believer.” Overall the show was entertaining but seemed sloppy at times. Maybe next time a longer sound check might be in order.
