Maude_Complete_btyIt’s here at long last. The complete series of TV classic Maude!

I have had season one of this show forever. I picked it up because of my love of Bea Arthur courtesy of Golden Girls. I’d never seen Maude before that, and honestly didn’t know anything about it. I watched one episode and was hooked. Unfortunately, no other seasons of the show were ever released so it’s been a one season show for me for close to a decade.

Now, at last, Shout Factory has ended the waiting with a gorgeous complete series collection featuring everything any Maude fan could want.

Special features include:

2 Original All In The Family Episodes: Cousin Maude’s Visit & Maude – Pilot
2 Unaired Maude Episodes: The Double Standard & Maude’s New Friend.
Syndication sales presentation (Hosted by Norman Lear).
And Then There’s Maude: Television’s First Feminist Featurette
Everything but Hemorrhoids: Maude Speaks to America Featurette
Memories Of Maude: Featuring New Interviews with Adrienne Barbeau and Bill Macy
40 Page Collectible Book With an Essay by Television Critic Tom Shales.

Shout has really done a great job with this. The features are comprehensive and well worth watching, especially the inclusion of the never-before-seen episodes.

Unfortunately, the picture isn’t spectacular but for a show this old, it looks well enough and there only a few instances of distracting artifacts. It’s really the show itself that is the star here. It is extremely funny, and still important today. It’s topical, even after thirty odd years, and Maude is still one of television’s greatest characters brought to life by one of our best actresses.

This is definitely a must buy set. It’s long overdue but well worth the wait thanks to the amazing people at Shout Factory, who just might be one of the best labels in the business right now.

If you are a fan of topical and controversial (less so now but still on point) humor, wry characters, or brilliantly strong women then Maude is the show you need to see. Personally, I find it to be a flawless and hilarious show and one that has taken its place as one of my favorite sitcoms of all time.
