Mhz International Mystery has released the entire International Emmy winning Danish series Unit One (Rejseholdet) on DVD. Originally produced from 2000- 2004 Unit One is available in Set 1, Set 2, and Set 3 collections that contain all 32 original episodes of the show. The show follows newly promoted Detective Chief Inspector Ingrid Dahl (Charlotte Fich) who heads up a special traveling investigation unit. Each episode finds them in a different part of Denmark investigating a ‘ripped from the headlines’ type crime; usually a murder or kidnapping.
Unit One is an intriguing, if familiar crime series. Its age works against it a little bit as many of the plots have been imitated countless times in the decade since, but the show is still highly entertaining. Some of the crimes, even now, are quiet shocking and smart writing kept my attention. American audiences will immediately spot Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal) in the cast as the somewhat loose cannon Detective Inspector Allan Fischer.
I found Unit One to be a slick, high budget show and one of the best titles MHZ has released so far. If you’re a fan of shows like The Killing and Borgen, this is definitely one to check out.
