Pete Townshend has been creating classic rock music with The Who for over 50 years but on “Pete Townshend’s Deep End: Face The Face” his solo recordings take center stage.
Eagle Rock Entertainment has just released this sought after concert from 1986. Originally recorded in Cannes, France for a “European wide exclusive television performance” this show finds Townshend in fine voice and backed by a stellar group of musicians.
For this performance the band includes Simon Phillips on drums, John “Rabbit” Bundrick on keyboards and Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour on guitar. Gilmour also handles lead vocals on the song “Blue Light” which appeared on his own 1984 album “About Face.”
Watching the then 40 something guitarists trade licks is a rock fan’s dream and MVP performances from Peter Hope-Evans on harmonica and Jody Linscott on percussion will have you watching this home video concert again and again.
Standout tracks include show opener “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” After The Fire” “Face The Face” and even “Slit Skirts” which features Pete stumbling over some of the lyrics.
If you are a fan of truly LIVE rock ‘n’ roll played with unbridled enthusiasm then “Pete Townshend’s Deep End: Face The Face” is a must for your CD/DVD collection!
