Welcome to the very first episode of our new web series: Pop Culture Beast’s Halloween Horror Picks! This ten episode series is all about horror movies, with a focus on specific title recommendations for your Halloween movie night! If you’re looking to watch some great horror movies this Halloween, this show is for you.
I won’t be able to cover all of my favorites and this isn’t intended to be a comprehensive “best of horror” or “top ten” list, but I’ll try and profile many different sub-genres and decades throughout the series.
In this episode, I talk about one of my favorite horror movies of all time… David Cronenberg’s first movie: Shivers, aka They Came From Within, aka The Parasite Murders (1975), starring the talented and beautiful Lynn Lowry. Shivers also stars Paul Hampton, Joe Silver, Susan Petrie, Allan Kolman and Barbara Steele, and was produced by Ivan Reitman.
It’s a fantastic, smart and unnerving little horror movie that I rate 9/10!
Look for new episodes every Monday and Thursday from now until Halloween. And hey, be sure to tell me where I got it wrong and where I got it right! You can also watch other episodes in the series:
Episode #2 – Strange Behavior (1981)
Episode #3 – The Killer Shrews (1959)
Episode #4 – The Antichrist (1974)
Episode #5 – Don’t Panic (1988)
Episode #6 – Spider Baby (1968)
Episode #7 – Targets (1968)
Episode #8 – Feast (2005)
Episode #9 – The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971)
Episode #10 – Night of the Living Dead (1968)
And don’t forget to support my own horror project starring Lynn Lowry: Eggs – A Horror Movie, which is funding right now on Kickstarter! As always, there’s a contest at the end of the video, and the first person to make a pledge and leave a comment on Kickstarter with the correct answer get’s a bonus prize added to their reward.
