Kenny Loggins is probably best know for his work writing and recording hit songs for popular 80’s motion picture soundtracks. From the pop rock perfection of Caddyshack’s “I’m Alright” to the syrupy sweet balladry of Over The Top’s “Meet Me Half Way” Loggins owned the singles chart for almost 10 years.
Loggins success in the soundtrack biz afforded him the time and money to continue carving out his own solo album career. Two of those releases: 1982’s “High Adventure” and 1985’s “Vox Humana” have just been re-released and given the remastered treatment by BGO Records.
“High Adventure” is brimming with great pop rock tunes and spawned 3 top 40 hits including “Don’t Fight It” a duet featuring Journey vocalist Steve Perry with the added bonus of Neil Giraldo on guitar, “Heart To Heart” and “Welcome To Heartlight.” Of the two albums included here “High Adventure” is definitely the one that has aged the best and is still a great listening experience. “Vox Humana” on the other hand is a bit of a mess. Bogged down by it’s heavy handed and dated 80’s production “Vox Humana” is almost unlistenable. There are literally only a couple of songs that are worth checking out. The 2 songs I can recommend would be “No Lookin’ Back” co-written and also recorded by former Doobie Brother Michael McDonald and the ballad “Forever.” Everything else on the album is just not worth your time.
The plus side of this collection is that both albums have been meticulously remastered and sonically have never sounded better. Both albums come housed in a double CD jewel box with extensive liner notes detailing Loggins career during the recording of these records. If you are a die hard Kenny Loggins fan then this set is a must own. Casual fans might chose to find Kenny’s hits via one of his many hits packages.
