Blu-Ray Review: “Yes LIVE at The Apollo”

In 2018 the classic ProgRock band YES celebrated their 50th anniversary with a LIVE performance at the world famous Apollo Theatre.

Founding member and original vocalist Jon Anderson plus former members Trevor Rabin and Rock Wakeman are in fine form on this newly released Blu-Ray (also on CD).

As most YES fans know there are currently two touring entities on the road… the one mentioned above and another featuring YES Family Tree members such as Steve Howe, Geoff Downes and Alan White.

Personally when there are multiple acts on the road using the same moniker I will always choose to go with the one featuring the original singer so “YES Live At The Apollo” would be the place for diehard fans to begin. Recorded in front of a sold out crowd at the Manchester Apollo in 2017 this just released concert documents the band firing on all cylinders. The production value on “YES Live At The Apollo” is absolute perfection combining state of the art sound, pristine Hi-Def images and a set list spanning the bands entire career featuring songs from as far back as 1971.

All the members are at the top of their game and when you see and hear Jon Anderson sing it will boggle your mind as to why anyone else would even attempt to sing these songs on stage other than him. I repeat… always follow the singer! Trevor Rabin rips up the frets in his guitar and Wakeman wearing his custom cape is a keyboard wizard casting spells upon the pack house of YES fanatics.

Props go out to the people who designed the Blu-Ray’s opening credits as they fade from retro style archive footage right into the present. The whole production is a feast for the eyes and ears and I suggest you also pick up the CD version as it truly is a masterpiece of LIVE performance.

Eagle Rock Entertainment has once again released a LIVE concert that you will want to watch over and over again!
