It’s been the year of K-Pop concerts for me. After seeing many groups this summer, I got to finish it off with OMEGA X right in my home state!
OMEGA X is a 10 member K-pop group that debuted in June 2021. All 10 members had industry experience prior to debuting in this group, meaning this is a group packed with talent and expertise. Which was especially apparent when seeing them live!
The Fans
OMEGA X very much embraced the culture of Ohio, especially Columbus Ohioans by doing Ohio State’s famous “O-H-I-O” chant. They claimed that they were going to do it before every song to keep the crowd hyped up, which they kept that promise for most of the songs. It was great to see them pay tribute to such an Ohio staple, but as a Bearcat I wish they did “Down the Drive!” Maybe if they stop at Cincinnati in the future… (all jokes!)
Fans came decked out and ready for the show. Some had the official OMEGA X lightsick, but a lot of fans came out with other group lightsticks to support the band. It was fun to look across and see a fun sea of lights, filled with support and cheers.
The Show
OMEGA X’s discography consists of a lot of upbeat lo-fi pop. They coordinated it with high energy dancing that kept my attention throughout the entire show. Another standout was the “unit” songs that were performed in between the group numbers. They performed some of their own songs, but one that really was unique was their cover of Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s “I Had Some Help.” Hearing a country song performed was such a special experience, and something that I have never seen before at a K-Pop concert.
The group had so much energy, it seemed like they never stopped dancing, even in the venue that heated up quickly. Just standing in the crowd I was getting warm, so it was incredibly admirable to see the members keep up their stamina and give 100 percent.
Conclusion
Overall, I had a lovely time seeing OMEGA X this summer. They were a new group to me at the time, but after seeing them live they’ve definitely found their space in my playlist. My friend and I had a great time dancing along, and cheering for the boys. I definitely would love to see them again next time they come to Ohio.
