Sergio Mansour is a top engineer at Circles, a massively popular social media network at the forefront of its industry. Just as they are poised to move into China, a devastating cyber attack brings the company to its knees. Sergio spots another engineer smuggling out a thumb drive, and this sets him on a collision course with a conspiracy that could affect the nation–and quite possibly get him killed.
A quite average techno-thriller about how easily social media could be used to manipulate the opinions of millions. Facebook has already been in the media for manipulating users in social and emotional experiments in 2010 and 2015, so the idea that a social network could be used as a propaganda tool to effect the opinion of millions isn’t really the kind of revelation that will surprise anyone. Far from being far-fetched, it’s plausibility takes something away from the impact of Terms‘ plot.
JL Jamieson is a strange book nerd who writes technical documents by day, and book news, reviews, and other assorted opinions for you by night. She is working on her own fiction, and spends time making jewelry to sell at local conventions, as well as stalking the social media accounts of all your favorite writers.
