Craig (Harry Lloyd) is a young man who’s feeling a little uncertain about moving out to the west coast and buying a house with his girlfriend. He has decided to lie about having to work and take a road trip to see the ‘world’s largest somethings’ throughout the south. His journey is a lonely escape, riddled with bad landmarks and tense calls from his girlfriend until he encounters Ella, singing in a bar, who has the power to turn his world upside down.
Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones) deftly leads this almost one man show as Craig. He navigates the characters troubles and uncertainties with incredible range; taking us through an emotional journey almost non-verbally. It’s an amazing shift from his famous turn as the selfish and entitled Viserys Targaryen.
‘BST’ has a classic 60’s road movie feel; from the music down to the copyright below the opening title. It is deeply introspective and scenic with a slow burn pace that is increasingly rare in the era of superhero cinema. The trip with Craig is a fascinating exploration of panic in the face of modern responsibilities and a trip worth taking.
Big Significant Things opens in theaters and VOD July 24th.
