Brilliant British Dramas That Have Fans Guessing Until The End

There has been an extra emphasis on dramas in recent years, with fans now streaming shows more readily than ever before. Fortunately for fans of British drama, they have been overwhelmed with the sheer number of exciting shows that have kept fans guessing until the very last season.

There aren’t many shows that can compare to British dramas, as they have just the right level of anticipation to keep viewers hooked on every second. But, what are the British dramas that have kept fans hooked until the closing moments of each episode?

Line of Duty

The best police drama of all time has engrossed fans throughout its run on the BBC. Many expected the 2021 release of series six to be the last, but it has already been muted that we could once against see Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, and Adrian Dunbar return to reprise their roles for one final series. Line of Duty is the ultimate guessing game, as fans were engrossed throughout the final two seasons as they were hoping to find out who the mysterious ‘H’ was.

H was the codename of the character that was behind all the corruption in the police, and fans were left waiting until the final seconds of the sixth series to find out the answer. However, with rumours of the show’s return, could we, in fact, find out that the wrong H was identified?

Peaky Blinders

The BBC just knows how to do drama, and Peaky Blinders is only further evidence of that. The smash-hit show based on a notorious gang from Birmingham features an A-list cast including Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, and Helen McCrory. However, it’s Steven Knight’s writing that has captivated audiences from around the world. No character ever looks safe in Peaky Blinders, and there was further evidence of that when John Shelby was brutally killed right at the start of the fourth series.

Fans have long been making predictions as to what could come next for the Peaky Blinders in series six, as Tommy looks to identify the reason why the assassination plot on Oswald Mosley failed. Knight has already admitted that series six will be the last season of the show, but revealed that plans for a feature length film are already in motion.

Broadchurch

Broadchurch only ran for three seasons on ITV, but it immediately became a huge success. The number of stars that played their parts in this hit drama defied belief. The two main characters were played by Olivia Colman and David Tennant, who worked as police detectives attempting to figure out crimes in a seaside town in Dorset. All three seasons focus on different stories, with the first focusing on the death of a local eleven-year-old boy.

The final series, which aired in 2017, focused on the rape of a woman while she was at a birthday party and identifying the culprit behind the crime. All three seasons take twists and turns throughout, which makes it one of the most interesting dramas for those that love to play detective. However, unfortunately, there are no plans for a fourth series as show creator Chris Chibnall admitted that the drama was always intended to run as a trilogy.
