Happy birthday to me indeed. The previously announced Ryan Gosling-led “Wolfman” for Blumhouse may have found its director.

Multiple sources this morning, including Deadline and the go-to horror site Blood Disgusting, posted updates speculating that “The Invisible Man” director Leigh Whannell would be up to the task.

I try not to get too excited by anything like this before confirmation, but right away Jason Blum himself tweeted the Deadline article.

Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo of “Orange is the New Black” will write the script. I’m all for this because we need to get more women involved in horror but especially these Universal Monster remakes. This is also intriguing since this would mean it’s the first project that Whannell is directing but not writing. I’m personally very stoked to see this collaboration.

In the meantime, you can read all about my thoughts on Whannell and his previous venture into Universal Horror in my essay about “The Invisible Man.”
