The box office weekend of 18-20 August was filled with winners and losers just like playing slots. Here is a quick summary of what happened during the weekend.

  1. The Hitman’s Bodyguard

A new entrant on the box office, The Hitman’s Bodyguard is an action movie starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L Jackson, Elodie Yung and Gary Oldman. The film released on 15 August made it to number one at the weekend box office.  It grossed $21,384,504 over the weekend.

  1. Annabelle: Creation

Two weeks after its release, Annabelle: Creation was number 2. It drifted one place in the negative direction at the box office.  The total gross amounted to $64,156,901 and the weekend gross of $15,612,680. Annabelle: Creation is a thriller about a doll maker and six orphans.

  1. Logan Lucky

Logan Lucky a comedy about two brothers’ attempt to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina. It made it to number 3 at the box office in the first week of its release. The comedy managed to have a weekend and a total gross of $7,600,036.

  1. Dunkirk

In its 5th week on the box office, Dunkirk bagged a weekend gross of $6,614,385 contributing a total gross of $165,422,464. The action, drama dropped 2 places from number 2 to number 4. Dunkirk is war movie based on the event when allied soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire and France are under attack from the German armed force.

  1. The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature

The animation comedy with only 2 weeks at the box office is at number 5 down from number 3 in the previous week. The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature made a weekend and a total gross of $5,092,344 and $17,675,989 respectively.  The animation is about Surly and his companions. This time they must prevent Oakton City’s leader from destroying their home to clear a path for a useless amusement park.
